PHASE II (2009-10)
Higher Education Coordinating Board
English and Science College Readiness Project
Phase 2
July 2009 – June 2010
In 2009-2010, Phase 2 will continue to work to describe how to fill the gap through use of classroom-tested teaching materials and practices, and identification of professional development training needs. Phase 2 of the project continues to be an "input" phase in which cross-sector pilot teams, composed of high school and college teachers, construct learning experiences that infuse college readiness definitions into K-12 curricula, building upon lessons learned in 2008-09.
In 2009, English teachers conduct year 2 of the college readiness pilot strategies in 11th and 12th grades in Spokane and Yakima. The sole science team from Eatonville will continue to pilot college readiness teaching strategies in 11th and 12th grades, building on concepts and methods initiated and evaluated in 2008-09. All pilot projects (Spokane, Yakima, and Eatonville) are focusing on practices that improve student college readiness “attributes”. (see English and science definitions to review “Student Attributes”)
